She is also a member of Oil Painters of America and was accepted to the Eastern Regional Exhibition. She is a juried member of Academic Artists Association and Landscape International. She is a philosophically direct descendant of the American Hudson River and Old Lyme painters. Barbara approaches her subject in a way that embraces these traditions working from direct observation and honoring nature. Her landscapes explore the romance of color and light and have been described as “poetry”. The daughter of a consummate fisherman and boater, Barbara experienced the mysteries and wonders of the sea while roaming the coastline of Nahant, Massachusetts as a child. She followed her father to warmer waters of Florida where everyday was a fishing/boating for him while she drew boats in the harbor for spending money and attending the Ringling School of Art. Later a three year adventure brought exploration of the South Pacific Coastline, Waters and Islands, sometimes being dropped off by helicopter on uninhabited islands to paint the pink rocks and turquoise waters. At the hands of her mother she learned the wild flowers and trees that forested New England. Barbara can be seen painting the coast of New England and the mountains of Vermont on any given day in any type of weather.
